Is Rummy a Skill Game?
Hey! Rummy is considered by the courts of law to be a game of skill or pure ability. Knowledge games or pure skills don't come into the betting and gambling umbrella. Rummy card game is exempt from the applicability of legislation banning betting and gambling activities, except in a few Indian states.
In 1968 India's Supreme Court ruled that rummy is a skill game. In several subsequent judgments, this decision was relied upon and followed. In 1996, India's Supreme Court also claimed that (i) a competition in which chances of success depend on a substantial degree of ability is not gambling, and (ii) given the fact that there is an element of chance, rummy is primarily an ability game and can thus be called a 'pure skill' game.
